This webinar will provide headteachers, senior leaders and governors with expert insight into published data on Ofsted inspections, including inspection outcomes for 2021-22, and explains how secondary schools can draw on this information to inform and enhance their own provision.

Ofsted’s resumption of graded inspections in September 2021, after a hiatus due to Covid-19, yields a wealth of data on the common challenges faced by secondary schools, as well as areas of strength, and also helps build a picture of Ofsted practice.

In this webinar, Adrian Gray, former inspector, Ofsted evaluator and academy trust consultant with extensive leadership experience, discusses data from Ofsted reports, including inspection outcomes, curriculum deep dives and Section 8 inspections, and invites schools to consider the implications for their own setting.

Outcome 1:

Gaining an overview of data Ofsted publishes about its own inspections, including inspection outcomes

Outcome 2:

Recognising trends within the secondary phase, including common areas for improvement and areas of strength

Outcome 3:

Understanding which types of school appear to struggle with the new inspections, and the relationship between grade and size

Outcome 4:

Gaining insight into the specific issues that lead schools to be graded outstanding or inadequate, and recurring trends

Outcome 5:

Being able to consider the implications of a range of Ofsted inspection data for schools’ individual settings

Adrian Gray

Adrian Gray worked in several schools before becoming an HMI. He held senior national posts at Ofsted and with the Standing International Conference of Inspectorates: the organisation which coordinates European school inspection. His roles included leading on school inspection guidance, writing a number of influential survey reports and evaluating the inspection processes of Ofsted across several frameworks. He also authored ‘European School Inspection and Evaluation: History and Principles’, a ground-breaking book which has come to be considered the essential text on the subject.

Adrian now works as a consultant for schools, local authorities and academy trusts. He has extensively advised school leaders on how to improve processes such as self-evaluation and development planning, including the use of online methods. Additionally, he has led training for several teaching school alliances and helped to set up a large new multi-academy trust.

Adrian also supports subject leaders with curriculum development in schools, including work on teaching pupils about where words come from and developing the local context.
