Rationale: On 15 June 2023, the DfE and Ofqual published consultation papers around the introduction of a GCSE in BSL – a landmark moment in British education. The DfE hopes the GCSE will give students an unparalleled opportunity to work towards a rigorous qualification that is internationally recognised, as well as increase the number of BSL users and advance equality and opportunity. Both consultations will close in September 2023.
