On 6 October 2021, the DfE updated its Positive environments where children can flourish guidance, which applies to social care and school inspections, in recognition of the fact that restraint negatively impacts children’s mental health and wellbeing and to underline the importance of protecting and promoting children’s rights.

In this webinar, Karen Pilling, SEND expert and acting deputy head with an extensive background leading on SEN training in schools, will explain the key principles established in the updated guidance, and how schools can translate these into everyday classroom practice, so that the need for restraint and restrictive intervention is reduced, and the safety of all and respect for children are upheld.
