Aim: This webinar will highlight the impact that a parent’s mental illness can have on young people. It also outlines the ways in which staff can support young people who have a parent with a mental illness, helping to build their resilience and improve their outcomes.

Rationale: Having a parent with a mental illness has been classified as an adverse childhood experience (ACE). Current estimates are that one in three children have a parent with depression or anxiety, while one in ten live with an adult who has a severe mental illness. Parental mental illness can also be the root of many other ACEs. The KCSiE statutory guidance underlines the importance of understanding how such experiences can impact students' mental health, behaviour and learning.
