At National Online Safety, we provide multi-award-winning online safety education for the whole school community. It’s our mission to make the internet a safer place for children. We believe that when children go online to learn, communicate or play, they should be able to do so safely. That’s why we provide schools all over the world with the knowledge they need in order to tackle new and evolving online risks.
Targeted Ads and Pop-ups
It's an advertiser's dream: software that tells them exactly what kind of things we like to buy. Our bite-sized video explains why this type of cookie might be bad for more than just our waistline.

What are targeted ads and pop-ups?
Advertisers and retailers make heavy use of tracking cookies to monitor our online activity so that they can target us with ‘relevant’ advertising. These trackers work quietly in the background, building up enormous, personal profiles of our browsing habits. When children and young people go online, their behaviour is tracked, and they might be bombarded with inappropriate adverts that are intended for adults, including pop-ups.
