Social media plays a huge part in children’s lives. Recent research by Ofcom found that 30% of children aged 5-7 use social media sites. This figure jumped to 44% in 8-11 year olds and almost tripled to 87% in 12-15 year olds. The popularity contents that often play out in the traditional areas of park and playground are increasingly shifting into the online world – where self-worth is often measured by likes, shares, friends and followers.

In this webinar Dr Rina Bajaj, counselling psychologist with almost 20 years’ experience of working with children and adolescents, outlines how the pressures that often accompany social media are linked to children’s brain development, considers the reasons children have a need to be liked, and suggests ways to support young people in understanding and managing feelings of anxiety.
