Aim: This webinar will explore how the prevalence of technology and devices in our lives can cause stress and anxiety in young people, including issues drawn from counselling sessions. It will discuss the biology of stress and how schools and colleges can help mitigate the anxiety that device use can bring.

Rationale: According to research published ahead of Children’s’ Mental Health Week 2022, the vast majority of staff in UK schools and colleges (95%) reported witnessed increased levels of student anxiety throughout the academic year. The ‘always on’ mindset produced, in part, by push notifications from digital devices, social media algorithms deliberately designed to increase engagement, and a heightened ‘fear of missing out’ can all negatively impact on students’ mental health.
