Aim: This webinar provides you with expert guidance on incorporating songs, stories and poems into the secondary MFL curriculum, helping to enrich learning experiences, expand understanding of the language, and build cultural capital. It shows how different genres can be exploited in a range of ways to teach and reinforce grammar and vocabulary, and uses examples in French, German and Spanish.

Rationale: The DfE statutory guidance National curriculum in England: languages programmes of study states that pupils at key stage 3 should “read literary texts in the language [such as stories, songs, poems and letters] to stimulate ideas, develop creative expression and expand understanding of the language and culture.” At KS4 students are also expected to have access to a variety of different types of text.
