Aim: This webinar explains how to manage the suspension and permanent exclusion of pupils from local-authority-maintained schools, academies and pupil referral units in England, including pupil movement, aligned with new DfE statutory guidance which will come into force in September 2023.

Rationale: On 25 May 2023, the DfE updated guidance on school suspensions and permanent exclusions in preparation for the new academic year. It complements the DfE’s Behaviour in Schools guidance, which explains how to create a school culture with high expectations of behaviour, so that suspensions and permanent exclusions are only ever used when all other strategies and interventions have been exhausted.
