This webinar will provide headteachers, governors and all school staff with expert insight into the DfE’s newly revised statutory guidance on school suspensions and permanent exclusions from local-authority-maintained schools, academies and pupil referral units, when other approaches towards behaviour management have been exhausted.

On 13 July 2022, the DfE published its revised statutory guidance ‘Suspension and permanent exclusion from maintained schools, academies and pupil referral units in England, including pupil movement’. The document is a companion piece to the DfE’s revised Behaviour in Schools, which sets out strategies, practices and interventions to prevent the need for suspensions and permanent exclusions. Both documents come into force on 1 September 2022.

In this webinar, Adrian Gray, former inspector, Ofsted evaluator and academy trust consultant with extensive leadership experience, will undertake a walk through the new statutory guidance, highlighting changes to previous guidance, reflecting the government’s ambition to create high standards of behaviour in schools, and explain how schools can continue to use suspensions and permanent exclusions appropriately.
