This webinar will provide senior leaders and teachers with an understanding of what makes social media so enticing to children and adolescents, as well as the risks associated with social media addiction and practical tools to support excessive use.

In the UK, 33% of 5-7 year olds and 60% of 8-11 year olds have their own social media profile. Studies have shown that young users can become dependent on social media and meet different criteria for addiction or excessive use, with the consequences linked to characteristics like anxiety, depression, lower self-esteem and poor sleep quality.

In this webinar, Amanda Giordano, an associate professor of counselling who specialises in addictions counselling, explores what makes social media so attractive to children and adolescents, how addition might be defined and what ways schools can respond to users who may be displaying signs of overuse.
