This webinar will provide headteachers, English leads, teachers and teaching assistants with an insight into the DfE’s recently published validated systematic synthetic phonics (SSP) programmes, and updated government guidance on fidelity to a single programme, to help schools understand phonics options and inform auditing and decision-making processes.

In July 2021, the DfE published a new list of validated SSP programmes in its ‘Choosing a phonics teaching programme’, reflecting revised core criteria and including five new programmes. In the same month, it updated ‘The reading framework’, including guidance on fidelity to a single SSP programme.

In this webinar, Jayne Robinson, school leader and SCITT tutor whose 25 years’ experience includes roles as NQT mentor and EYFS lead, presents the second of two webinars on SSP programmes. Here she explains criteria for choosing an SSP programme for your particular setting to give all children a solid base upon which they can build as they progress through school.
