Aim: This webinar will explain best practice in phonics teaching in modern foreign languages (MFL) at primary level to help pupils develop their linguistic ability, aligned with government guidance. It is one of a series on best practice in primary MFL provision.

Rationale: Ofsted’s Research review series: languages highlights the importance of phonics as one of the three pillars of progression in the languages curriculum. It is essential that key stage 2 pupils are taught the phonics of the target language, so that they can build the foundations of excellent pronunciation, which in turn will allow them to develop confidence in speaking the language.
