Anthony is Principal Lecturer and Subject Leader for Geography Education at the University of Roehampton, where he teaches initial teacher education courses as part of the undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
Before entering higher education, he taught in London and Bolton for twelve years. At the start of his career, he worked in supply across early years and primary settings, and also taught in KS2. His admiration for, and understanding of early years practice has deepened since, and is an important part of his work now at Froebel College. He is a member of the primary leadership group at the university and leads Roehampton's well-established undergraduate QTS degree programme. He is an External Examiner at a SCITT, and has performed the role at university, too.
Anthony was, until recently, Chair of the Early Years and Primary Committee of the Geographical Association, and is now Trustee. He has been a consultant for academy groups and schools through the Geography Association, and has authored resources and acted as consultant on various projects for TTS, Rising Stars, Scholastic, the BBC and GridClub/Channel 4. Anthony supported the campaign for Humanities 2020 and sat on the previous HMI for geography's panel in the run up to the Research Review (2021).
Anthony co-wrote the book Mastering Primary Geography (Bloomsbury, 2019) and has chapters in books on broad-ranging topics, including effective primary displays, diversity in education and the danger of 'single stories'. He tweets @totalgeography and @EYPPC_GA.
