This webinar will provide headteachers, senior leaders and designated safeguarding leads (DSLs) with advice and practical guidance on effectively safeguarding learners from the risk of extremist ideology or radicalisation, in accordance with new DfE guidance.

On 24 October 2022, the DfE published ’The Prevent duty: safeguarding learners vulnerable to radicalisation’, which provides guidance on the Prevent referral process, education settings’ statutory responsibilities, and identifying and managing radicalisation risk. At the same time, the DfE published ’Making a Referral to Prevent’ explaining how schools should prepare a referral and how this will be assessed.

In this webinar, Elizabeth Kitto, former teacher, Prevent lead and UK government advisor, highlights the salient points of the new DfE guidance, helping education settings to navigate their local referral process, preparing DSLs to understand and respond to risk in their setting, and helping settings fulfil their statutory safeguarding duties.
