In many respects, our personal data is the ‘currency’ of the internet – which means we need to protect it. This brief video clarifies the essentials.
Name, email, postal address, phone number … we think next to
nothing about entering these into the multitude of sites or services that we
visit and use every day. Besides obvious functions such as online shopping or
verifying payment details, however, what is this data actually used for? What
happens to it after we’ve handed it over in digital form? And more worryingly,
how safe is it? We’ve all heard horror stories of internet users having their
bank details or their very identity harvested online by hackers with criminal
