Aim: This webinar will explore the data around young carers in the UK and discuss how schools are expected to know which pupils in their setting are also young carers, as well as what schools are expected to offer in the way of additional support.

Rationale: The Children’s Society reports that there are around 800,000 young carers in the UK: a child who looks after an elderly relative, an even younger sibling, or a family member who has a physical or mental health condition, or misuses drugs or alcohol. Some of these carers are as young as five, and 39% of them said that nobody at their school was aware of their additional caring responsibilities – let alone provide extra support for their mental health and wellbeing.
