The Education Endowment Foundation (EEF) report that an effective approach to mastery learning can, on average, lead to an additional 5 months progress, although admit that making mastery learning work successfully is challenging. Whilst there is no single established view or definition when it comes to mastery, what is known is that it is connected with the concepts of shallow and deep learning.

In this webinar Chris Whitney, international literacy consultant, moderator, writer and former deputy headteacher and teacher, will explore the concept of ‘teaching for mastery in English’, what the benefits of effective mastery learning can deliver and how teachers might think about developing and achieving mastery in the classroom.
