This webinar will provide headteachers, PSHE/RSHE leads, DSLs and teaching staff with an insight into influencer culture and practical guidance on how to support children’s critical thinking and mitigate the risks associated with influencer behaviour.

Social media is flooded with influencers. With children and young people becoming more and more consumed by what they see on platforms such as Instagram, TikTok and YouTube, it has become a billion-dollar industry which means commercial or personal motives can sometimes distort credibility, authenticity and what is real.

In this webinar, social media expert, Andrew Davis explains the phenomenon that is influencer culture, why influencers have become such a big part of our society and what steps schools and colleges can take to boost digital resilience and reduce the negative impact of influencer behaviour.

Outcome 1:

Understanding what online influencers are and the impact influencer culture has on children and young people.

Outcome 2:

Identifying tools and strategies that can be implemented in the classroom to develop critical thinking skills and build digital resilience.

Outcome 3:

Recognising both the positive and negative aspects of influencer behaviour and the impact that this can have on children’s mental health.

Outcome 4:

Understanding how influencer culture has shifted in focus and comparing influencer culture to branding and sales in the past.

Outcome 5:

Recognising how influencer culture is likely to develop in the future and what potential concerns this may bring moving forward.

Andrew Davis

Andrew Davis created and delivered the first social media course connected to GCSE English in schools that helped hard to reach children to obtain A-C grades. He also sat on the Ofcom Advisory committee for England for 4 years, where he ensured a strong focus on innovation, technology and diversity.

Andrew is renowned for helping organisations transform their communication, marketing activities and business development through digital platforms.

His strategic workshops show how a digital lens can help achieve objectives and answer the most popular question in social media right now: ‘So what?’. Andrew counts many of the UK’s most prominent educational and corporate names among clients such as EdExcel, KPMG, Goldsmiths, Tesco and The Royal Mail.

With a digital career spanning 20 years, he has experience moderating chatrooms for Pop Idol and Liverpool FC, producing shows for the digital station BBC Radio 1Xtra and he was part of the team that saw the rise (and fall) of Myspace.com between 2006 and 2009.
