Sara Alston is passionate about achieving the best for all children and ensuring ‘the welfare of the child is paramount’ is at the heart of all we do in schools. She promotes these beliefs through her work as a SENCO and as an independent SEND and safeguarding consultant and trainer.
With Daniel Sobel, Sara wrote The Inclusive Classroom: A New Approach to Differentiation (January 2021) which was a finalist for ERA Education Book of the Year 2022. Her second book, Working Effectively with your Teaching Assistant, was published in February 2023.
Sara has written a wide variety of courses and resources for teachers and TAs for a range of organisations. She writes regular articles for Teach Primary and Headteacher Update, as well as blogs about SEND and safeguarding issues. She is a proud contributor to Tiny Voices Talks edited by Toria Bono and It takes 5 years to become a teacher by Ros Wilson.
As a consultant, Sara supports schools, including those who are ‘under-SENCO-ed’ to develop outstanding SEND practice, and conducts TA, SEND and safeguarding reviews. Sara is becoming a regular speaker at conferences and leads school INSET and training events.
