Webinar duration: 58 minutes (approx.)

This webinar will provide headteachers, senior leaders, nursery managers, nursery practitioners, teachers, and TAs with expert insight into and guidance on the purpose of and types of assessment used within the EYFS, in line with the EYFS Framework and early learning goals.

Under the EYFS framework, it’s a statutory requirement to make assessment arrangements for measuring children’s progress. Assessments should be made at the start of reception and end of the EYFS, however ongoing assessment is at the heart of effective early years practice and developing a wide range of assessment means can help support the identification of individual needs and progression of learning.

In this webinar, Sarah Cummins, a Montessori theory practitioner with 20 years’ experience as a teacher, SENDCO and headteacher, will explore alternative methods of assessment within the EYFS, how they can support children’s development and practical measures for implementation.

Outcome 1:

Understanding the purpose of assessment and how it can benefit children in the early years foundation stage.

Outcome 2:

Gaining insight into the impact of formal assessment on young children and how it affects later learning.

Outcome 3:

Understanding how to make effective use of assessments and employ a combination of diagnostic, formative and summative assessment methods.

Outcome 4:

Appreciating how observational assessment can support children’s development and understanding the principles for effective practice.

Outcome 5:

Recognising practical methods of employing different assessment methods and the importance of supporting children’s wellbeing.
