At National Online Safety, we provide multi-award-winning online safety education for the whole school community. It’s our mission to make the internet a safer place for children. We believe that when children go online to learn, communicate or play, they should be able to do so safely. That’s why we provide schools all over the world with the knowledge they need in order to tackle new and evolving online risks.
Hacking
Do you know your white hats from your black hats? How about grey hats? Our quick explainer video is brim full of the information you need to get your head around hacking.

What is hacking?
Hacking is the unauthorised attempt to exploit a computer system or network.
White hat hackers are known as ethical hackers and have no intent to cause harm but will penetrate a system to identify weaknesses.
Black hat hackers or Crackers hack to gain unauthorised access to harm or steal sensitive information.
Grey hat hackers act more for fun and exploit security weaknesses in computer systems to raise awareness of issues for recognition, political awareness, or financial reward.
