Green Schools: Implementing the ‘5 Rs’ of Waste Management

This webinar will provide headteachers and senior leaders with advice and practical guidance on managing waste within their school or college according to the ‘5 Rs’ hierarchy - refuse, reduce, reuse, refill, recycle – to reduce the amount of waste destined for landfill, and on launching initiatives and campaigns which children and young people can lead to help reduce the school or college’s carbon footprint – saving and making money in the process.

The DfE’s Sustainability and climate change: a strategy for the education and children’s services systems, highlights the importance of developing a green, sustainable education estate, and the fact that climate adaptation and decarbonisation activity brings children and young people powerful opportunities for practical, hands-on learning: “Seeing sustainability brought to life in the buildings around them will allow children and young people to gain experiences which will enhance and contextualise their learning.”

In this webinar, Edd Moore, award-winning eco coordinator, teacher, environment education consultant and mentor, will provide insight into the 5 Rs waste management methodology, and explain how schools and colleges can reduce their waste, saving money but also making money through initiatives which can educate and empower young people along the way.
