Aim: This webinar offers an insight into the various challenges that EAL pupils encounter in the classroom; it then explores evidence-based, practical teaching strategies to support EAL pupils in overcoming these additional obstacles to maximise outcomes in their studies.

Why this webinar’s important: The most recent estimations are that one in five pupils in the UK now have English as an additional language – a figure which continues to rise year on year. It is therefore increasingly essential that education providers factor this growth into their approach to teaching, to help them ensure that all students are being given the opportunity to benefit from the learning available to them. Learning outcomes

Outcome 1:

Appreciating the nature and variety of the challenges that EAL pupils are currently facing in the classroom

Outcome 2:

Building a comprehensive awareness of successful EAL teaching strategies, and how these might work in your specific setting

Outcome 3:

Forming an understanding of language development techniques, and how they can contribute to enhancing EAL students’ attainment

Outcome 4:

Recognising the importance of cultural sensitivity and inclusivity, and how these can help to remove potential barriers for EAL learners

Outcome 5:

Identifying possible adjustments and appropriate means of support during assessment, and considering tips and tools for effective monitoring
