Aim: This webinar will provide you with practical guidance and advice on how to integrate gardening activities into daily nursery routines, including overcoming common obstacles, conducting risk assessments and what benefits it can bring.

Rationale: Introducing young children into gardening activities can have a huge impact on children’s health, wellbeing and overall development. Research has shown that school gardening can support fruit and vegetable intake, increase a sense of personal achievement and, for children with learning difficulties or behavioural problems, act as a place of peace or meditation.

Outcome 1:

Understanding why gardening in nurseries and early years settings can be beneficial for children, staff and the environment

Outcome 2:

Identifying practical ways to integrate gardening activities into daily routines in day nurseries and early years settings, and engaging young learners

Outcome 3:

Recognising the very basics of gardening to share with children to support their development, and where to find additional support

Outcome 4:

Identifying a range of resources to help support “plant to plate” ideas, and running through a number of practical examples

Outcome 5:

Understanding what types of risk assessments for gardening should be considered and reviewing potential action plans for introducing gardening into your nursery
