Aim: The webinar will examine online echo chambers, illustrating how ideas can take hold of individuals and create pathways to radicalisation. It will then discuss in detail what strategies schools and colleges can adopt to reduce this risk (such as encouraging critical thinking and a balanced digital diet).

Rationale: With recent United Nations research highlighting a rise in extremism among young people, and the British government issuing updated guidance on the problem, it is important to recognise that radicalisation pathways are not only formed through direct contact. They also exist online as a result of echo chambers: where a single uncontested view or belief is consistently reflected back to users by algorithms which offer people content aligned with their interests.
