Aim: This webinar offers practical guidance on overcoming language barriers to ensure effective safeguarding for all pupils – discussing the communication challenges for those with a duty of care and suggesting strategies to ensure safeguarding provision is of high quality for every child.

Rationale: It is, of course, a statutory duty for trusted adults to safeguard every child effectively. This can present a different type of challenge in an environment where a child, or that child’s family, does not speak English or the same language of the trusted adult in question. The latest figures from the UK, for example, illustrate that almost one in five (19.5%) school pupils has English as an additional language.
