At National Online Safety, we provide multi-award-winning online safety education for the whole school community. It’s our mission to make the internet a safer place for children. We believe that when children go online to learn, communicate or play, they should be able to do so safely. That’s why we provide schools all over the world with the knowledge they need in order to tackle new and evolving online risks.
Digital Footprint
What actually IS a digital footprint? How does it shape our experiences on the internet? This bite-size video quickly explains why every step we take in the online world has consequences.

What is a digital footprint?
Your digital footprint is who you are online. Everyone has one, not just people who are online a lot. A digital footprint is compiled over time from your daily online activity which are known as digital breadcrumbs. These breadcrumbs are collected passively and can be created through the websites you visit, the music you listen to, or the photos you upload. A digital footprint can be positive or negative and is shaped by the choices an individual makes online.
