Lucy Rose is a teacher, leader, and co-founder of Flexible Teacher Talent. Currently working flexibly as an English teacher in a London secondary school, Lucy originally joined the profession as an early Teach First participant in 2004 and progressed to Assistant Headteacher. Frustrated with the haemorrhaging of talent from the profession, Lucy undertook research in flexible working as part of the Teach First Innovation Series where she met co-founder Lindsay Patience. Today they work together with schools, policy makers and teaching professionals to improve flexible working opportunities for the recruitment and retention of high-quality teachers.

On 22 September 2022, a research briefing from the House of Commons Library identified that the overall number of qualified teachers in state-funded schools has not kept pace with increasing pupil numbers over the past decade or so. This means the pupil-to-teacher ratio has risen. Similarly, the teacher vacancy rate has increased during this time and provisional estimates for teacher supply for 2022/23 indicate that the secondary school teacher target will be missed.
In this webinar, experts from Flexible Teacher Talent, who aim to normalising flexible working in schools in order to retain effective teachers and leaders, will explore the ways in which you can develop an effective and practical job-sharing strategy within a secondary setting that can enhance the recruitment process and aid retention of employees already in-post.
