The sexual exploitation of children and young people doesn’t always involve physical contact. Increasingly, it’s taking place through technology – with young people being coerced or manipulated into (most commonly) sharing nude or semi-nude images of themselves, holding explicit conversations via online messaging or texts, or conducting sexual activity on webcams. Even without direct contact with the offender, the risks to a child’s mental and emotional wellbeing are incalculable – and it can be extremely difficult to ascertain whether a child or young person is (or has been) exploited in this way. Our short video will help trusted adults to begin understanding this difficult topic.
