This webinar will provide headteachers, senior leaders, teachers and teaching assistants with expert insight into how to create the right balance between transcription and composition to raise writing standards within primary schools.

On 6 October 2022, the Office for National Statistics published their Key stage 1 and 2 phonics screening check attainment, which showed there has been a drop in attainment standards in writing across primary schools. With the government target to get ‘90% of children to achieve expected standards in English reading, writing and maths by the end of primary school by 2030’ it’s essential teaching develops pupils’ competence in transcription and composition in line with national curriculum requirements.

In this webinar, Chris Whitney, international literacy consultant, moderator, writer and former deputy headteacher and teacher, will explore ways to balance transcription and composition in schools, consider how staff can meet national curriculum requirements and discuss different strategies to support better writing standards.
