This webinar will provide nursery managers, headteachers and senior leaders in early years settings with an overview of Ofsted’s new research reviews focused on early years, and insight into its conception of high-quality education for children from birth to four years old. The webinar will form one of a series, launched in tandem with publication of subsequent research reviews by Ofsted on the seven areas of learning and development, aligned with the EYFS.

On 14 November 2022, Ofsted published ‘Best start in life part 1: setting the scene’, the first in a series of subject-based curriculum research reviews focused on early years education, underpinning Ofsted’s new strategic focus on early education and giving children ‘the best start in life’ following the Covid-19 pandemic. Drawing upon a range of published research, the first review identifies the factors that contribute to a high-quality early education.

In this webinar, Sue Asquith, award-winning, international early childhood consultant, speaker and author, will highlight the salient points of this first review in Ofsted’s new series, explaining the background to and rationale for the launch of the series, and identifying the features which, in Ofsted’s estimation, can contribute to a high-quality curriculum and pedagogy.
