English Hubs
Funded by the Department for Education, there are 34 English
Hubs located around the country – having been selected for their expertise in
teaching reading and to support schools in their surrounding area.
The hubs’ mission is to promote a love of reading and help
schools to provide excellent teaching in phonics and early language. They will
focus on supporting the slowest progress children in Reception and Year 1 classes
– helping to ensure that every child can be successful, regardless of
background, needs or abilities.
Each English Hub has a Hub Lead and a team of literacy specialists,
offering services including showcase events in teaching phonics, early language
and reading for pleasure; support in developing an action plan; and funding to
purchase a DfE-validated systematic synthetic phonics (SSP) programme and the
training and resources to implement it successfully.
