Tom Llewellyn-Jones has worked in Prevent since 2014. In this time, he has been in charge of Prevent for three Local Authorities. Prior to this, he was a Prevent Education Officer for a priority Prevent area, where he designed a large number of resources for educators that would help build resilience in young people against radicalisation.

Tom was formally a Head of RE, Philosophy and Politics in secondary schools. He has used his experience in designing curriculums that promote debate and critical literacy in order to build educational materials that get young people to be critically aware and realise that the rigid worldviews espoused by violent extremism don’t stand up to scrutiny.

His experience as teacher means that he knows both the pressures on educators and the natural curiosity found in young people. As such, his training materials and resources encourage healthy debate about controversial issues. Difficult subjects should not be shut down, nor should free thinking be stifled. Instead, schools are the ideal place for challenging views to be expressed and discussed. Tom works to ensure that educators are confident in their ability to do this and know where to turn for support should it be required.
