Stephen Parsons

Stephen Parsons has worked as a speech and language therapist for over 30 years. He has in-depth knowledge of Developmental Language Disorder and its context in UK education. Between 1996 and 2017, he was Speech and Language Therapy Service Manager for Hackney and the City of London. 

Stephen also currently serves as Chair of NAPLIC, the UK organisation for professionals working with DLD. He works with schools and specialist provisions with children and young people with DLD. Stephen long-term interest in vocabulary and has published research in the area, including co-authoring the best-selling resources Language for Thinking (2016), World Aware (2017-2021) and Language for Behaviour and Emotions (2021) 

Stephen’s work with RADLD and NAPLIC puts him in regular contact with researchers, practitioners and families. In 2021, Stephen was awarded the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists’ Sternberg Award for clinical innovation for the project DLD Together, an online parent support group for families of children and young people with DLD.
