LEYF (London Early Years Foundation) was formed as Westminster Health Society in 1903, a time of poverty and shockingly high infant mortality. Pre-dating the NHS, it promoted child welfare and family health – breaking new ground by offering professional childcare training, outreach and home visits, drop-in sessions and parenting classes.

London Early Years Foundation (LEYF)
Sean Cowden joined the London Early Years Foundation (LEYF)
group of nurseries in 2022 as a chef trainer and has since progressed to the
position of Health and Food Programme Manager. His role involves a mix of
leading the chefs at LEYF, and influencing policy and advocacy for early years
nutrition and health.
Crucially, Sean also leads on the group’s Early Years Chef
Academy training programme. This initiative was established in 2019 to ensure that
more children are able to receive the healthy, nutritious food they need to
grow and learn. The scheme not only upskills chefs to become experts in child
nutrition but also helping little ones, staff and parents alike to build
healthy eating habits for life.
