Gary Wilson
Currently regarded as one of the UK’s leading authorities on boys’ achievement, Gary has been a secondary teacher and senior manager in schools for 27 years, and a School Improvement Officer for Kirklees LA for three years with responsibility for raising boys’ achievement. For the last 16 years, he has worked as a consultant and author. He has produced a range of books for Bloomsbury Press, including ‘Boys will be Brilliant!’ to support boys in early years, ‘100 Ideas for Primary Teachers: Raising Boys' Achievement’, ‘Pocket PAL: Raising Boys' Achievement’ for primary and secondary phases, and ‘Breaking Through the Barriers to Boys’ Achievement and Developing a Caring Masculinity’ for all key stages.
In addition, Gary produced guidelines entitled, ‘Using the National Healthy School Standard to Raise Boys’ Achievement. He was also, for five years, chair of the ‘National Education Breakthrough Programme for Raising Boys’ Achievement.’
Gary has delivered training in thousands of schools, worked with boys, parents, governors and LAs across the length and breadth of the UK. His work has also taken him around the world. His often-declared aims are to keep boys on the agenda in schools, LAs and the government, to raise their levels of achievement as well as raise decent young men.
