Emma Hawker
Emma Hawker is the impact and projects manager at Governors for Schools, a charity that sources and supports dedicated volunteers on to governing boards. They believe the key to improving school performance is effective governance, and by finding, nurturing, and supporting a committed network of governors they help to drive systematic change in how schools operate.

She also leads the Pathway to Governance and Pathway to Trusteeship programmes at Governors for Schools, which help prepare volunteers with the skills and knowledge they need for school and academy trust governance. She has co-developed ‘The first 100 days as a trustee’ in collaboration with the Confederation of School Trusts, a free online course that covers the basic knowledge trustees need in the early stages of their new role.
Since leaving primary school teaching, Emma has been a product development manager/education adviser and held several governance roles in both maintained schools and academies. She is currently the vice chair of Southend East Community Academy Trust and chair of the Curriculum and Pupil Matters Committee.
