Carl Pattison

Carl Pattison began his career as a Key Stage 2 teacher. His initial specialism was in Mathematics, and this led to him becoming a Math’s Consultant for the National Strategies in 2008. However, his desire to support children in disadvantaged areas remained and he returned to work in a school as a deputy headteacher. During this period, he began to develop his understanding in early literacy and the challenges children face. Furthermore, his step into parenthood also enhanced his desire to learn more about reading and the journey to becoming a proficient reader.

After a six-year period in headship and executive headship, he took up the post of English Hub lead for the Flying High Partnership. This enabled him to specialise in early literacy and reading for pleasure, whilst helping colleagues in schools to meet the reading challenge. He also works as the Early Reading lead for schools across the Flying High Trust and has established himself as an independent early literacy consultant.
