Adverse childhood experiences, including abuse, neglect and dysfunctional home environments, are associated with the development of harmful behaviours in later life. When children do not have ‘good enough care’, children’s neuropathways do not form in the same way as children who have and therefore their brain may develop typically. It is important that all early years practitioners have an understanding of this.
