Aim: Developed by vastly experienced leadership and governance consultant John Rees, this online training course will provide you with the knowledge and skills to understand the role and responsibilities of the clerk to the governing board of an academy.

Description: It is vital that an academy’s governing board clerk has an in-depth understanding of the Department for Education’s Academy trust governance guide (released in March 2024), and knows how to work effectively in partnership with the chair to help maintain the board’s focus on its core strategic priorities. The clerk should also be equipped to confidently provide independent, expert advice and guidance to the board on its duties and functions, while also delivering efficient administrative support.
