New ‘Keeping children safe in education’ guidance has been published and will become statutory from 1 September 2023.

All schools and colleges must maintain a single central record of pre-appointment checks, referred to by law as “the register” and more commonly known as “the single central record (SCR)”. Schools must ensure a minimum amount of information is recorded for all members of staff, including if relevant checks have been completed and if roles involve ‘relevant activity’.

Developed by Lorna Ponambalum, safeguarding and inclusion consultant, this online Single Central Record training course and certificate will provide you and your school staff with the knowledge and skills you need to ensure you’re meeting your statutory requirements and legal obligations with respect to recording staff information.

Please note: This training course consists of learning through video, task completion and further reading/research. Please consider this when planning and allocating your time. To successfully understand and achieve the objectives of the course, learners are expected to engage in all aspects of the learning process to ensure they can successfully apply the knowledge and skills they have gained in their own settings.

All schools should continue to adhere to the current ‘Keeping children safe in education’ guidance until 1 September 2023.
