Case Study:
Westlands Community Primary School
With the digital world changing daily, it was clear to Westlands
Community Primary School that they needed to empower their staff to keep pupils
safe online.
National Online Safety is part of our One Platform
membership, which provides award-winning online safeguarding training and
resources for the whole school community, in addition to more than 2,600
courses, webinars and resources to ensure compliance and improve standards.
Charlie White, a Year 3 teacher and the computing subject
lead at Westlands, joined us to discuss how the whole school community has
benefitted from our role-specific professional development.
Online safety training and resources for all stakeholders
Designed in line with statutory and curriculum requirements,
National Online Safety drives a whole-school approach to online safeguarding which
engages leaders, staff and parents and carers, evidencing compliance with DfE
guidance, Ofsted expectations and recommended best practice.
Charlie recalled: “We were looking for a one-stop shop for
online safety. We already used the #WakeUpWednesday guides, and it was our
go-to website long before we had the membership.”
He explained: “When parents come to the school with a
question about apps, games, or devices, I’m not an expert so it can be difficult
to give them advice. That’s why your platform is so useful.
“It’s just been brilliant,” he enthused. “We had 40 parents
in the school for a training workshop based on the resources available on your
platform, which was a huge success. To have that level of engagement from
parents and carers is good.”
Charlie continued: “Online safety is such a huge thing at
the moment and it’s changing all the time, so it can be challenging to keep up
with it as a school.
“The parent and carer courses with Myleene Klass were
brilliant too. Her tone was great, and she made it sound realistic to monitor
children’s behaviour online,” he commented.
2,600+ webinars, courses, and resources for all staff
One Platform membership provides unlimited access to our
comprehensive professional development platform, with a wealth of content
across 12 categories, delivered by world-leading experts and available on
demand.
“Our HR staff and administration staff are using the other
courses on the platform too, in the admin and finance category,” Charlie
reported. “We have a huge shelf full of books in our staff room, but your
webinars are so much more accessible.
“You do all the research for us. We get all the benefits,
but no loss of time, which is crucial as a teacher.”
He concluded: “It’s great that you can pause the training and return at a convenient time too. It’s very user-friendly. You can log in, find the answers you are looking for and get the information you need.”
