Queen Katharine Academy have been able to roll out award-winning, remote video CPD to the whole school workforce, thanks to a membership with The National College.

Michelle Stratton, Assistant Principal, spoke with us to explain how our individualised approach to CPD has benefited the school.

Joining The National College

Queen Katharine Academy place a huge focus on ensuring that they deliver high-quality and informative CPD to their staff.

Michelle explained: “CPD has become a big priority for us at Queen Katharine Academy, particularly after the lockdown.”

She continued: “We were searching for how we could continue to develop our staff throughout the pandemic and going forward.”

“One of the things we love about The National College is that it’s not just for our teachers. It’s for all staff. Our governors, teaching assistants and the whole school workforce can search the platform and that’s what drew us to The National College.”

“The breadth of roles and responsibilities that the CPD covers, as well as the range of content covered is great,” Michelle said.

One-stop-shop for CPD

Discussing the school’s journey with The National College so far, Michelle said: “It’s become our go-to place for CPD. If there’s something that we need to develop, we will check The National College immediately.”

“You look at one webinar and that leads you to another. I’ve got a watchlist which is like my reading list, and I can watch those webinars when I have the time.” she continued.

She added: “Many of our staff utilise the watchlists, and they like the fact that they have their own record and certificates for completing the CPD too. It gives us a lot of opportunities and it has really helped me to consider the different levels of thinking within the school.”

A flexible approach to CPD

At The National College, we pride ourselves on the flexibility of our CPD, which allows staff to undertake training at anytime, anywhere and on any device.

Michelle revealed: “The best thing about The National College is that you can complete the CPD when it is convenient for you. It is so flexible and can be done at any time.”

She said: “Staff members who are aspiring to be leaders utilise the Leadership & Governance section of the platform a lot.”

Highlighting the biggest positive for Queen Katharine Academy, Michelle said: “I would say that it’s the flexibility. It enables every member of staff to complete their CPD when they have the time to do it.”
