Co-aligning with the ambitions of us here at National Online Safety, St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Primary School in Stoke-on-Trent had a determination to develop their online safety proficiency, so that they could implement this into a classroom environment.

To ensure this was delivered in an engaging and accurate manner, the school acquired our Certified School Community Package and began rolling out our resources across their classes.

The ambition to improve e-safety awareness and knowledge doesn’t conclude with the children that they’re educating though, with staff members and parents alike reaping the rewards.

E-safety as a collective

Speaking about the all-encompassing nature of National Online Safety’s resources, Tom Washington, Year 4 Teacher, Computing and E-Safety Lead said: “St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Primary School chose to work with yourselves (National Online Safety) because we recognised your desire to support and strengthen online safety. A company with passion for an area of education that can sometimes be forgotten.

“We identified National Online Safety as being a regularly updated platform, filled with resources and opportunities to develop understanding of the many aspects of online safety.

“We have purchased the comprehensive annual National Online Safety Certified School Community Package. All our staff are actively using the multitude of resources and as a school we have provided access to all the parent guides through our school website.”

Personal development

Mr Washington was praising in his evaluation of National Online Safety’s broad pool of courses, which offer staff the opportunity to stay on top of the latest changes to legislation.

“As National Online Safety is so regularly updated, we knew that you would also support our statutory obligations in line with KCSIE 2019 and the new Ofsted Frameworks,” he stated.

“As E-Safety/Computing Lead I have found all resources useful, both for myself and the wider school community. Other staff have made use of the courses available to refresh their minds and introduce new legislations put in place about online safety and online reputation.”

Learning possibilities for the wider school community

The subject of E-Safety and its importance doesn’t evaporate once the children have vacated the classroom at the conclusion of a day.

With this in mind, the intent from the outset from St. Thomas Aquinas has been to educate and develop parents’ and carers’ understanding of online safety, so that they can subsequently relay the message to their children.

“Parents are currently being introduced to the scheme alongside our updated E-Safety pages on the school website,” he revealed.

“The way the parent guides have been produced makes them engaging for all and far easier to read. I also appreciate the style of the monthly update webinars which I plan to summarise for my school’s E-Safety Ambassadors to relay to the whole school in monthly assemblies.”
