Hornsea School and Language College offers education for 1,200 students between the ages of 11-18.

Their approach to online safety is clear to see, with weekly lessons implemented in order to keep children safe in the online world and having our certified school package has only helped to enhance this capability.

We spoke with e-safety coordinator, John Hart, who revealed just exactly how our award-winning training and resources have helped the whole school community.

Why did you choose National Online Safety?

You guys let me take a look at the things that you had and I was really impressed with the resources, in particular the parents guides (#WakeUpWednesday guides) – I really liked those.

Overall, the quality of the training packages were much better than what we’d used before.

I’m the e-safety coordinator and I work closely with the safeguarding team but I also teach e-safety lessons.

How have you found the service from National Online Safety?

There’s been no problems whatsoever with anything like that.

Whenever I’ve contacted the team, they’ve got back to me straight away.

How much of a benefit have National Online Safety’s resources been to your school?

I thought I was pretty up to date and there was so much that I learned – so it’s been really good.

It’s really hard for many people to keep up and nice to have someone who does that for you and fills you in.

What were the goals for using our resources?

What I wanted to do was get better information out to parents regularly. The student support people will very often have a concern over e-safety and they will deal with it before sending it across to me where I’ll do some one-to-one stuff.

So I wanted to update their training really. There’s a specific course for the designated safeguarding officer which is first rate.

What is your feedback on our weekly #WakeUpWednesday guides? How would you say they’ve added to your e-safety approach?

Either something will come up in the news generally or we have a specific issue which will arise, and then I can send out the relevant guide to that.

Specifically when things took off with Houseparty, it was great to be able to send something out about that.

One of the ways that you’re winning on this, is that it’s not just about the information, the graphics are really easy to read and digest too.

How much of a benefit has the ability to undertake courses and training on an online platform, in your own time been?

It’s been brilliant, absolutely brilliant.

Everybody has been really impressed with it and everybody’s learned something new from the training.
