Case Study

Connahs Quay based Golftyn CP School wanted to take a proactive approach to online safety in respect of their whole school community.

Through National Online Safety’s Certified School Programme, they were able to begin taking the steps towards this and were rewarded with their NOS accreditation earlier this year.

Golftyn have felt the accreditation has validated their stance on the subject of online safety, but they stated that the hard work must continue moving forward.

Choosing National Online Safety

Offering an insight into exactly why the school make the decision to implement our online safety resources and training, Year 1 Teacher, Designated Safeguarding Lead and Special Educational Needs Coordinator Gavin O’Loughlin stated that he was searching for an all-encompassing package.

Upon discovering National Online Safety, he felt our approach to keeping children safe online was aligned with his own and would also benefit all those affiliated with the school.

He said: “I chose National Online Safety in response to looking at our School’s 360Safe review (we are a school in Wales) and National Online Safety gave us a great mode to deliver training in online safety to parents, staff and governors.”

Online safety training for the whole school community

At National Online Safety, we’ve created an extensive range of online safety courses which benefit the whole school community, from parents to ICT Leads.

Mr O’Loughlin revealed just how useful these have been and pointed out that he’s not just speaking for himself in that respect.

“I personally have completed the courses as the Designated Safeguarding Lead, Teacher and Special Educational Needs Coordinator,” Mr O’Loughlin revealed.

“I found them (the courses listed above) very useful, I have also used the application data sheets (#WakeUpWednesday guides) to support parents knowledge.

“I teach in Year 1 so I haven’t as yet made use of the online safety lesson plans which are available.”

Expert support

Mr O’Loughlin also payed tribute to the way we’ve helped the school keep on top of all the latest developments in what is an ever-changing online world.

He stated: “The service from National Online Safety has been good too.

“I also love the fact that it was easy to engage parents and the data sheets (#WakeUpWednesday guides) allow a simple way to support parent knowledge."
